The Shubenacadie Canal is a man-made waterway in Nova Scotia that links the port of Halifax with the rest of Canada by way of the Bay of Fundy. The 50-mile canal was originally designed in 1826, but construction was not completed until 1861. The scenic Shubenacadie Canal is now recognized as a Canadian historic site, with tours and teaching outposts. Much of its length has been restored, and the waterway is now a favorite of recreational canoeists and kayakers.
